Before the invention of the internet, the word recruiter was equated to the military. Recruiters for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines looked for potential candidates to join the military forces. Before the internet, there were human resource managers who searched for the right candidate to fill a job position at a firm. Before the internet, potential job seekers walked to different businesses and handed their resumes to the human resources department of that business. With the invention and the evolution of the internet it has changed the way human resources does business. Now through the internet human resource managers have become recruiters who search online job websites looking for the best candidate to fill a position. When people walk into a business now a days and hand their resume to the human resource department they are directed to the companies webpage to fill out an application and send a resume and cover letter at the same time. Human resource and recruiting are no longer a face-to-face transaction. Now everything is done by phone, email, or social networking website. With the explosion of high speed internet we are all searching and bulk applying for jobs online there are thousands of job seaking web sites which makes it much easier to find and aplly for jobs hense such a massive amount of applications for the employer to search though making it very hard to stand out.

Job seekers have had to learn how to make themselves more noticeable by creating more unique, interesting, and eye catching resumes. People that do not have a lot of experience in some areas are needing to punch up their resumes in order to look like they could fit a particular position. This can make it harder for recruiters to discern whether a person really has the knowledge and experience needed for a particular job. Some helpful tips for job seekers is to make sure that they put phone numbers for all of the businesses that they worked for. This is so that the recruiters can call former employers to find out the work experience and knowledge-ability of the applicant. Remaining as truthful as possible on a resume will ensure that the applicant has the best chance of being chosen for a particular job. Nothing is more embarrassing than putting false information on a resume only to have it revealed once a recruiter performs the necessary background check with former employers.

Many job seekers are becoming more desperate to find a job. When they do not get chosen for the jobs that they are seeking it is spurring them to find out the reasons why. Since there is no one to really talk to about why they were not chosen it has turned into a guessing game. Even if they did not have the exact qualifications a company was looking for they may have received the job on their personality alone. The internet has made it harder for people to shine, so they are looking for better ways to make themselves shine through social networks, such as facebook, twitter, and linked in. By putting the internet website on a resume the recruiters are looking at these social networking websites as a way to get to know potential employees better.
